Carlisle

Hello everyone! I am now in Carlisle England, where I am staying two nights. I get picked up in the morning and driven to Bowness on Solway to start the walk. I will walk back to Carlisle and Friday morning will walk East from here. I read that many people go in the opposite direction. I chose this way because apparently there isn’t much of Hadrian’s wall left at this end. So, rather than ending with disappointment, let’s start that way and things will get better. It’s how I write papers so it has to be true for walks too!

Carlisle is a small city, and none of the historical sites were open today. Here is the citadel

Lots of red brick. It looks like the city is still recovering from the pandemic…there were many to let signs - for rent, for all of us North American folks.

It is supposed to drizzle tomorrow, but I will take plenty of pics of the first day! Ta!
